The Internet of Things (IoT) is shaping the way we live our lives.

IoT refers to the system of interrelated devices that are connected through the internet which transfer and receive data between one another.

Within our industry, we have seen IoT evolving and have made our predictions on the upcoming trends of IoT as well as how it is likely to develop within the industry.

Increased connectivity

We expect that we will see a rise in the number of connected devices, with many new devices being designed with IoT capabilities built in. This will lead to increased connectivity and interconnectivity among devices, as well as the development of new IoT-based applications and services. Making operations that utilise this technology much more streamlined and this type of communication will become smoother.

5G

With the rollout of the 5G network, we expect to see an acceleration of consumers using this to achieve faster and more reliable connectivity for IoT devices. With the availability of higher bandwith, it is likely this will lead to further development of new IoT applications.

Edge computing

Edge computing is one we expect to become increasing important within the IoT, through it’s real time processing and analysis of data.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are becoming increasingly important in the field of IoT, with many devices being designed with AI capabilities built in. This trend is likely to continue to grow in 2023.

Security and privacy

With a significant increase of devices, itis highly expected there will be a greater need for stronger security and privacy measures to be put into place to protect against cyber threats. We predict that this trend will only grow and continue to be a focus in the coming years.

It is clear that with the constantly development of technology, trends will continue to drive innovation and progress within the IoT industry.
