Meet the Team: David Carr

David builds bespoke solutions to solve pain points for our customers.

What is your role within the company?

I’m a senior developer, I work on both the backend with Laravel and the frontend with Vue.js. I build bespoke solutions to solve pain points for customers and create ways to integrate multiple systems to provide a single source of truth. This enables customers to be more efficient.

I look at ways I can contribute to the team and provide more reusable solutions.

What do you like most about working for Intellicore?

I get to work with a great team of like-minded developers, all working to a common goal. Also being able to work remotely means I can focus on work without many distractions as well as teach and learn from others within my team.

What first attracted you to your area of expertise?

I started programming in 2006. It began as a hobby, building fan sites for games I was playing. I got a real taste for it and then went on to university. With a few lines of code you can change how a piece of software works, solve problems and enable new creative solutions. The coding world is ever evolving there is always something new to learn, which has always excited me.

What are the values that drive you?

To be the best programmer I can be, to help others along the way.

What is a key challenge that your customers face that you want to solve/have helped to solve?

Often customers will use applications that don’t speak to each other, which means inputting the same data multiple times. We solve this by building a central application or creating integrations to allow better communication and collaboration. Building applications that solve problems that allow customers to focus on other parts of their jobs is vital.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

I love the start of a new project, looking at the problem we’re trying to solve and coming up with the best solutions.

Outside of work, what are you passionate about?

I’m a big believer in giving back. I love the open-source community and I’ve personally learned a lot from others - I love to write and maintain PHP packages that anyone can use in their projects. I also write books and tutorials on my blog and chat to other developers all over the world.

I really enjoy attending coding conferences too. It’s a great way to chat with other developers and keep up to date with new coding techniques.

What’s something about you that not a lot of people know?

As a child I wanted to go into the Army, until I left school and got into computers.

Describe yourself in three words?

Dedicated, inspired, ambitious

What are your hobbies/ what do you do on the weekends?

I spend time with my family, go out for meals and I like travelling. I also play video games when I’m not coding!
