W3C Declares HTML5 As A New Standard! - At Intellicore, It's Been A Standard For Years

On Tuesday earlier this week, HTML5 has been finally ratified as a new hypertext markup language standard by the World Wide Web Consortium, a.k.a. W3C. It follows its predecessor HTML 4.01 that has been set as a standard in the year 2000.

It was believed by various critics in 2012 that even though the HTML5 has been around since 2008 it would not have been ratified until 2022. And here we go. Negative prognoses didn’t matter to Intellicore and HTML5 has been our web development building block for years now. It is very good to hear that it’s been finally recognized as a new standard.

Infographic explained

Infographic explained

I must admit that the first time my boss asked me to design an infographic I had no idea what he was talking about! If you, like me, are still ignorant in this respect, you'll be interested to know that an infographic is nothing more than a bunch of information visually represented; the aim being to communicate it in a much more simple, clear, and most of all, interesting way. For example, if you were trying to get someone to read some complicated statistics,

Enhanced Web Design for Business

Enhanced Web Design for Business

We live in an era where businesses rarely get to make a first impression in person anymore; websites are the main vehicle used for presenting ourselves and offering our services . For this reason, we have to realise just how important our websites are and how we are presenting ourselves to those who visit them.

From a visual point of view, many people would say they don't know anything about design, but generally speaking most people will recognise when something looks naff and when something looks good. So although our minds may think they don't understand design, our eyes do and the subliminal messages that we can communicate visually are very important.

What are Telerik Controls?

Telerik is a provider of rich and powerful UI controls and components for Microsoft development platforms like ASP.NET AJAX, ASP.NET MVC, Silverlight, WPF, and Windows Forms. Telerik also provide data access layers, reporting, code analysis and refactoring tools.

The benefit of Telerik controls over the standard Microsoft controls that are often used is the richness, responsiveness and user friendliness.

Database Normalisation

What is database normalisation?

Normalisation is the process of ensuring that any data within a database is efficiently organised.

Why do it?

There are two main reasons for normalising a database:

Cross Browser Compatibility

There is a lot of speculation at the moment regarding the cross browser compatibility of the next roll up of this system.

Be aware that users are unlikely to be able to use any web browsers immediately from the box - there may be a requirement for customisation so that clients can use certain browsers, particularly if browsers other than Internet Explorer are to be used. Some areas will still only be available through Internet Explorer, including; customisation and administration features and the workplace and service scheduling calendars.

Not all browsers will be supported by new roll up, for example Opera and some older versions of Firefox. Which begs the question:

What will be supported?

Extended Customer Relationship Management

An effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system will classify your prospects and help identify your best customers. It can provide you with detailed information on your clientele, meaning you can accurately project and respond to their buying needs throughout the sales cycle. When this system is customised for your business it will help you automate routine sales tasks, allowing you to spend more time focusing on strategic sales issues. Intellicore specialises in tailoring an effective system for you and your business. Our bespoke service can help expand the capabilities of your business by evaluating your marketing, sales, customer service techniques and more.

(Poor Web Design) Things to Avoid?

What makes people leave a website? Getting people to visit your website is hard enough, getting them to stay on it is even harder! Below are some design tips to top your visitors from bouncing off.

Cookies - things you need to know

Someone somewhere will have mentioned ‘cookies' to you at some stage if you use the internet. Some people perceive them to be intrusive spying mechanisms tracking your every move on the net but they can also be a harmless device designed to make your life easier.

Most commonly you will see them in pop-up windows - most people close the alert box without really considering what the ‘cookies' are.

Benefits of HTML5

What is HTML5

Before looking at the benefits of html5, let's go back to basics; what is 'html 5'?

The 'HTML' part of the moniker is Hyper Text Markup Language, the main language used to display web pages and other information and data on the World Wide Web. The five relates to the fact that it is the latest version – nothing more complicated than that!

iOS application for Dynamic CRM 2011

I have been tasked with developing an iOS application that can interact with a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 system. As this isn't something I've had to do before the first thing I did was go online to have a look for any information on the topic, particularly to familiarize myself with any potential pitfalls/problems. The search itself was relatively fruitless so I have decided to keep a diary whenever I make any discoveries during the development that could be useful for other developers – a blog that I hope will prove a good resource on the subject!

Understanding of development environments

When it comes to developing mobile application development, there are several options available; the most suitable depends on your specific requirement. This document will cover the core enthronements for each operating system. In the mobile market, there are three big hitters when it comes to operating systems (OS) – iOS, Android and Windows 7. Each of these operating systems has a corresponding development environment.

iOS 5 vs. iOS 6

Based on Apple's previous incremental update history, one would think if you pitted iOS 5 vs. iOS 6 there could only be one winner. However, when Apple transitioned to iOS 6 from iOS 5 they made several fairly substantial changes, some for the better – some for the worse. A lot of the changes were very subtle but can have far reaching consequences. Other changes may be more obvious to the user such as the new UI elements and changes to the native applications (the removal of the Google Maps and YouTube applications for example).
